Junior Nationals Meet blog update from Coach Kevin

Atlanta, GA   -  Stars Coach Kevin Harrod will be providing frequent updates from Atlanta regarding his trip to the Junior Nationals meet with Ben Stewart-Bates.

Wednesday, December 8th

Hello from not-so-Hotlanta. When we left Cleveland this morning it was cold and snowing. Down here in Atlanta it's just cold. The action in the pool this weekend at the 2010 Short Course Junior National Meet will be plenty hot.

We landed safely ahead of schedule and went straight to the pool to check in. If you don't know the history of the pool we are swimming the meet in, it is on the campus of Georgia Tech and was the 1996 Olympic swimming pool. How cool is that? Ben had a great warm up. Later tonight for dinner we are going to the famous Diner/Drive thru:, Varsity. I'll report back tomorrow after Ben's 500 Free.  Click here to look at the facility.

Thursday, December 9th

Hello everyone from a gradually warming up Atlanta. This morning Ben swam his 500 free. He was seeded 98th coming into the meet. Ben swam a very strong race from start to finish and ended up going a 4:38.49 which is his lifetime best. He moved up multiple spots to finish 80th overall. Ben attacked his first 250 very strongly but then fell off pace a little near the end. This sets him up nicely for his 200 free on Friday.

Next up is lunch, some down time to catch up on homework, then back for finals to see more fast swimming.

Friday, December 10th

Hello from Atlanta on Day 3. Ben swam his 200 free today and he put together a tremendous swim for a best time, 1:42.97. He split his race exactly the way we planned it - and finished 79th overall.  We will go back to watch finals tonight and then go out to dinner with the other Lake Erie swimmers who are here.

Saturday is an off day in terms of racing, but we will get in the pool to do some prep work for the Long Course Invitational on Sunday.
