This past weekend, eleven of the senior-level boys participated
in
their first water polo
tournament. The tournament took place in Toledo
with
eight teams from Ohio and Michigan. The boys had one game
on Friday night
and three on Saturday. I
was lucky enough to watch all four games and
enjoyed them tremendously. While it was obvious that the boys
had much to
learn, their improvement was evident with each game. By the
fourth game,
the boys were extremely competitive and lost only in the last
minute by two
points. It was very exciting!
The sport of water polo is fun, exciting, and involves a huge
amount of
exercise and strategy. We are fortunate that the Solon Stars
Swim Club has
added this extra opportunity for our swimmers. We want to
thank the coaches
and those on the board for making this sport available to our
children.
Most of all, we want to thank Coach Johnny for his efforts to bring
water
polo to the Stars, and for his wonderful coaching. Throughout
each game, he
was teaching strategy and giving encouragement and reinforcement to
the
players. The boys also had a great time staying overnight in
Toledo on
their "road trip."
We encourage all of our swimmers to consider taking part in this
new
and fun endeavor. It would be wonderful to put forth a
competitive team
when the season starts again in the spring. We also encourage
the parents
of our water polo players to
attend the games and cheer them on. Even if
you do not have a child on the team, come and see what the sport is
all
about.
